Bhubaneswar, Feb 4 (NationPress) Tension escalated in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar after the heartbreaking demise of a minor girl in a road incident involving a bus from the city’s public transport service on Tuesday.

The victim, a 12-year-old named Kuni Juadi, had been residing at a nursery in the Raghunathpur locality along with her family.

Eyewitnesses reported that the girl was cycling to purchase food from a nearby shop when a speeding ‘Mo Bus’ struck her down at Raghunathpur under the jurisdiction of Nandankanan police.

Unfortunately, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses claimed the bus dragged her for approximately 50 to 100 meters following the collision. In response, angry locals initiated a blockade by setting tyres ablaze on the Jaydev Vihar- Nandankanan Road, demanding financial support for the bereaved family.

“The girl’s parents are daily wage earners and require sufficient compensation from the authorities for their immense loss. We also insist that the ‘Mo Bus’ management take measures against the drivers for reckless driving and hire skilled drivers, as there have been around 10 road incidents in the past six months involving Mo Bus vehicles between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack,” voiced a local resident.

Upon notification, police and CRUT officials arrived at the scene to engage with the protesting locals. The demonstrators lifted the blockade after receiving assurances from the authorities.

A CRUT spokesperson stated to the media: “This incident cannot be undone; we are arranging to provide financial aid to the victim’s family.”

He also mentioned that an initial inquiry indicated that the bus was operating within the speed limit, and a definitive cause of death would require further investigation.

According to reports, the police have commenced an inquiry into the case and detained the bus driver at the Nandankanan police station.
