Patna, March 26 (NationPress) In a significant blow to the RJD, the Bihar Assembly on Wednesday turned down a proposal to suggest Bharat Ratna, India’s most prestigious civilian honor, for the prominent leader.

The call for bestowing Bharat Ratna upon Lalu Yadav has been a persistent demand from the RJD, frequently voiced by his devoted supporters.

On Wednesday, RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan once again presented the proposal in the Assembly, urging the Bihar government to forward Lalu Yadav’s name to the Central government for consideration.

In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary made it clear that while the state government does propose names for the Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards annually, there is currently no recommendation for Lalu Yadav.

“At this moment, the Bihar government has no proposal to suggest Bharat Ratna for Lalu Yadav,” stated Vijay Chaudhary.

He also requested Mukesh Roshan to retract his proposal. However, when Roshan declined to do so, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav conducted a voice vote.

The proposal was ultimately dismissed by the majority. This rejection was a setback for RJD members, who expressed visible disappointment.

With the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, the demand for Bharat Ratna is perceived as a political tactic to engage public sentiment and rally support for Lalu Yadav, who continues to be a significant figure in Bihar politics despite facing health and legal challenges.

RJD leaders and supporters voiced their dissatisfaction outside the Assembly.

“Lalu Yadav has made remarkable contributions to social justice and the upliftment of backward classes. He rightfully deserves the Bharat Ratna. This rejection is truly disappointing,” remarked Mukesh Roshan, the RJD MLA from Mahua Assembly constituency in Vaishali district.
