Patna, March 21 (NationPress) Following an incident involving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during the national anthem at a sports event, significant turmoil erupted in the Bihar Assembly and Legislative Council on Friday, led by the opposition figures Tejashwi Yadav and Rabri Devi.
As the Assembly session commenced, opposition members initiated their protests, shouting slogans such as “Rashtra Gaan Ka Apman, Nahi Sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate the insult of the national anthem)”.
Tejashwi Yadav called for CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation, accusing him of showing disrespect to the national anthem during the Sepak Takraw World Cup inauguration in Patna.
He alleged that the CM was engaged in conversation, laughing, and folding his hands while the national anthem was being played, conversing with Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar.
Members of the opposition staged protests both inside and outside the Assembly, turning this incident into a significant controversy. Tejashwi Yadav requested to address the assembly on the matter, but his request was declined by the Speaker, which resulted in further disorder.
Despite the ongoing slogans from opposition leaders, the Question Hour proceeded.
“We hold the Chief Minister in high regard, but when the national anthem is insulted, India will not stand for it,” Yadav declared.
In response to the opposition's claims, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary refuted the allegations.
“The people of Bihar are aware of the respect the Chief Minister has for the national anthem and national customs. There is no need for anyone to challenge it unnecessarily,” Chaudhary asserted.
The opposition is likely to persist with its protests, while the government remains steadfast in its support of Nitish Kumar.
This issue could escalate politically, with demands for a formal explanation from the Chief Minister.
