The complainant, Sunita Devi, informed the police that her husband frequently subjected her to beatings, and the presence of the weapon heightened her fears for her safety.
“My husband always beats me. He keeps a pistol hidden under the bed. I am scared that something terrible might happen to me because of the gun. That is why I informed the police,” Sunita Devi stated.
Mufassil Station House Officer Samrat Singh confirmed the incident, emphasizing the seriousness with which the woman’s complaint was treated.
“After receiving information about the accused's assaults on his wife and the hidden firearm, we promptly informed Sadar SDPO Vivek Deep. A police team was dispatched to the scene. During the search, a country-made pistol was recovered, and the suspect admitted to frequently quarreling with his wife,” the SHO reported.
An official statement from the Bettiah police on Thursday indicated that an FIR has been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act, with further investigations ongoing.
The accused was presented before a district court on Thursday, where he was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
