Patna, Feb 25 (NationPress) The opposition in Bihar escalated its criticism of the Nitish Kumar administration on Wednesday regarding the alleged ineffectiveness of the liquor prohibition law.
On this day, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Legislative Council member Sunil Kumar Singh made a startling allegation, claiming that liquor was being delivered directly within the Assembly grounds on the final day of the session.
Addressing journalists, Singh openly challenged the government's stance.
“Ensure your cameras are ready. On the last day of the session, you will witness how liquor is delivered right here,” he stated.
In a strong critique of the prohibition policy, Singh questioned the efficacy of the law that has been in place for nearly a decade.
“Bihar has maintained prohibition for 10 years, but what kind of prohibition is this? Bihar records the highest levels of alcohol consumption. A law against dowry was also enacted, yet dowry is prevalent in nearly every marriage. Similarly, the prohibition law is ineffective, and the government has utterly failed to curb liquor smuggling,” he asserted.
The RJD leader further claimed that liquor is being delivered even in sensitive and high-security areas.
He alleged that alcoholic shipments reach the statue of Rajendra Prasad situated outside the Chief Minister’s residence and insisted that liquor is accessible wherever desired in Bihar.
According to Singh, students from schools and colleges are being employed to transport liquor in small vehicles, with the administration fully aware of these operations.
He also alleged that Anne Marg has turned into a hub for liquor deliveries.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, once again criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the deteriorating law-and-order situation.
Speaking to reporters within the Assembly premises, Tejashwi Yadav stated that law and order in Bihar has completely deteriorated, with criminals operating with impunity.
“Criminals are in control of the state. Incidents occur daily, yet neither the Chief Minister nor the two Deputy Chief Ministers are willing to take responsibility,” he remarked.
He further claimed that Nitish Kumar is currently at the lowest point of his political career.
“Nitish Kumar has become so weak that he fails to recall basic facts. Previously, he never delegated the Home Ministry to anyone, but this time he has handed it over to the BJP. As elections approach, Amit Shah begins touring states. This visit to Seemanchal is connected to the West Bengal elections,” Tejashwi alleged.
Tejashwi Yadav also criticized the central government concerning economic issues, noting the continuous weakening of the rupee and the arbitrary tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, while the government seems distracted by political narratives.
