RJD Slams Nitish Administration Over Liquor Trafficking and Police Brutality
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Opposition ramped up its criticism of the Bihar government on Wednesday regarding alleged extensive liquor smuggling occurring despite the state's prohibition laws. They also condemned the recent police lathi charge on protesting Chowkidars and Dafadars in Patna.
In a media briefing, RJD MLA Bhai Virendra asserted that prohibition is merely a formality, stating that the illegal sale of alcohol, including counterfeit liquor, remains rampant throughout the state.
He pointed out that large shipments of liquor from neighboring states are infiltrating Bihar on a daily basis, which raises significant concerns about the effectiveness of the administration and law enforcement.
Addressing worries raised by Chirag Paswan regarding incidents of toxic liquor, Bhai Virendra claimed that such smuggling operations cannot happen without the collusion of officials.
“Liquor is frequently crossing state lines, and it is inconceivable without the involvement of certain government personnel,” he remarked, further accusing some NDA-affiliated leaders of facilitating this illegal trade.
The RJD representative voiced alarm over the increasing use of locally made and counterfeit liquor, warning that young people aged 15 to 20 are increasingly becoming addicted, jeopardizing their futures.
In addition to the prohibition concerns, Bhai Virendra strongly denounced the recent police brutality against Chowkidars and Dafadars who were protesting in Patna regarding their demands.
He labeled the police action as “inhumane and barbaric,” stating that the Grand Alliance has highlighted this matter in the Bihar Assembly and called for the legitimate demands of the protesting employees to be met.
Referring to the alleged police action near a government facility, he claimed that the employees were severely beaten, and the issue was raised directly with the Chief Minister during Assembly proceedings.
“The lathi charge on Chowkidars and Dafadars is utterly barbaric. Those responsible for issuing and executing this order should face strict disciplinary action. Immediate suspension of the involved officials is necessary,” he insisted.
He also alleged that while the Grand Alliance brought the issue to light earnestly, other parties were more interested in leveraging the situation for political gain rather than seeking justice for the affected employees.
