Muzaffarpur, July 18 (NationPress) In a highly praised decision, the NDA government has announced that 125 units of free electricity will be provided to residents throughout Bihar. This initiative has generated immense joy and gratitude, particularly among the economically disadvantaged and lower middle class. Many view this scheme as a transformative solution for households grappling with escalating utility expenses.
In Muzaffarpur, individuals from diverse backgrounds have conveyed their appreciation, calling the decision both timely and beneficial.
Sangeeta Sahu, a local resident, referred to the initiative as a “courageous and praiseworthy action” by the NDA government. “This change will provide substantial relief to countless families. The savings from electricity bills can now be redirected towards other crucial necessities,” she stated to IANS.
Sahu further highlighted the potential for collaboration with renewable energy projects. “Consumers exceeding 125 units will be motivated to take part in the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. The government should also establish a system for purchasing surplus electricity produced by individuals with solar panels. This would encourage more residents to generate their own power and ease the load on the grid.”
Artist Anand Singh Sonu shared similar views, commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the “double-engine government” in Bihar for their leadership. “This has been a long- awaited demand of the less fortunate. Free electricity will significantly alleviate the burden on daily wage earners and small-scale laborers. The funds saved can now be allocated to their children's education or personal growth. This is a major victory for the common man,” he expressed.
Muzaffarpur local Irshad Hussain Guddu also welcomed the announcement, extending gratitude to both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for this initiative and their ongoing infrastructure development efforts, including railways and roads.
“All communities, including minorities, Dalits, and Maha Dalits, will benefit. People genuinely feel appreciated and supported by this action,” he noted.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday that starting August 1, 2025, all domestic consumers in Bihar will receive 125 units of electricity free. This benefit will be reflected in their July billing cycle.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated, “We have consistently offered electricity at reasonable rates. Now, we have resolved that from August 1, all domestic consumers will not incur charges for up to 125 units. This initiative aims to lighten the financial load on households.”
The timing of this announcement coincides with the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, scheduled for October or November.
