Patna, Feb 25 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of establishing speciality medical centres throughout Bihar, which would not only assist individuals who currently have to seek medical care in cities beyond the state but also invigorate the local economy.
While attending the centenary celebrations of the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the President articulated that traveling to other cities or states for healthcare brings numerous challenges, such as treatment delays, along with issues related to food, accommodation, and employment.
She pointed out that depending on external medical services places a strain on healthcare facilities in larger cities, advocating for the decentralization of quality medical institutions nationally to alleviate these burdens.
Highlighting cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Indore as successful speciality treatment hubs, President Murmu urged Bihar to follow suit in developing similar facilities.
"This initiative will not only ensure better healthcare for the citizens of Bihar but will also enhance the state’s economy," she stated.
The President noted that the PMCH and its alumni possess the experience to significantly contribute to this initiative.
She referred to the Patna Medical College as an integral part of Bihar’s rich heritage, commending its illustrious past of maintaining tradition while embracing modern advancements.
"PMCH was recognized as one of the finest hospitals in Asia. Its alumni have excelled both nationally and internationally, earning prestige for themselves and the institution through their talent, commitment, and service," she remarked.
President Murmu also acknowledged the current technological era, stressing its pivotal role in the medical sector.
She pointed out that innovations such as Artificial Intelligence and robotics streamline and enhance medical procedures, encouraging all stakeholders of PMCH to remain open to incorporating the latest technologies.
This adaptation would not only simplify treatment but also bolster doctors’ expertise and effectiveness, she noted.
The President reminded that our doctors serve as researchers, therapists, educators, and counselors, playing vital roles in society and contributing to the nation’s progress. She encouraged them to raise awareness about the significance of blood and organ donation.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were also in attendance during the event.
