Imphal, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, stated on Thursday that certain individuals are manipulating the state's ethnic unrest and misleading the populace.

During an official event at Khangabok in the Thoubal district, he mentioned that a significant number of residents still struggle to comprehend the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur.

He refrained from naming any political party or person.

Biren Singh explained that his administration's stance against immigrants is rooted in their involvement in drug-related activities and poppy cultivation, which pose serious socio-economic challenges for the native communities.

“We need to discern who genuinely seeks development, peace, and unity in Manipur, and those who perpetrate harm against innocent citizens. We must protect ourselves and reveal the malevolent actions of those with ill intentions,” he remarked.

“Those aiming to fragment Manipur have employed agents to instigate trouble. Such agents are present in Imphal Valley and align with those wishing to destabilize Manipur. We must remain vigilant,” added the Chief Minister.

During a public interaction event at Khangabok Maisnam Leikai, UYC Ground, Biren Singh engaged with local residents and noted that many are beginning to understand the underlying issues of the ongoing ethnic crisis and are extending their support towards restoring peace and normalcy.

He reaffirmed that the state government will consistently work to uphold the state's unity and integrity.

Biren Singh clarified that the government has not acted against any community that has coexisted peacefully for generations, but will oppose vested interests aiming to cause division.

After addressing the concerns raised during the interaction, the Chief Minister committed to initiating several development projects in Khangabok, including allocating Rs 50 lakh for the installation of water pumps at four paddy fields: Louhonbi Loukon, Keipha Loukon, Kiyam Loukon, and Tentharam Loukon. He also promised the establishment of an open gym.

He acknowledged the public's commitment to preserving water bodies and announced development initiatives at Ikop Pat and the cleaning of Loukhong Pat, each with a budget of Rs 1.2 crore.

The interaction event was attended by local body representatives, self-help groups, village volunteers, and the Khangabok community.

The Chief Minister was joined by Power Minister Biswajit Singh, Health Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister L. Susindro Meitei, alongside MLAs Sapam Kunjakewor, Thongam Shanti, Khongbantabam Ibomcha, and Md. Abdul Nasir.
