Chandigarh, Feb 13 (NationPress) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will kick off a two-day orientation session for the newly elected representatives of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Haryana in Chandigarh this Friday.

In attendance will be Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini; the Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, Harvinder Kalyan; state government ministers, along with Assembly members.

The orientation will feature Union Ministers, Chairpersons of Parliamentary Committees, Members of Parliament, and subject matter experts who will offer insights on various topics, including: being an effective legislator, essential guidelines for members, legislative and financial operations in the Indian Parliament and the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the significance of the committee system in parliamentary democracy, ensuring executive accountability through questions and other mechanisms, the minister's role in legislative activities, parliamentary privileges, and the National eVidhan Application (NeVA).

This initiative is organized by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), Lok Sabha Secretariat, in partnership with the Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

Since conducting its inaugural orientation for Arunachal Pradesh's Legislative Assembly in 1981, PRIDE has successfully executed 70 orientation courses, drawing over 5,032 state Assembly members. In the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, there are 40 first-time MLAs.

Among the 90 elected MLAs, notable political figures include former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, seven-time lawmaker Anil Vij of the BJP, and experienced politician Raghuvir Singh Kadian from Congress.

The BJP leads with the highest number of newcomers, with 23 new MLAs, followed by Congress with 13. Both the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Independents have two first-time members each.

There is a record-setting 13 women legislators, with Geeta Bhukkal from Congress being the most senior, having been elected five times.

Savitri Jindal, recognized as the richest Indian woman with a net worth of $33 billion, is the only Independent female MLA and has been elected thrice.
