New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) A two-day orientation program designed for the new MLAs of Delhi will kick off on March 18, featuring topics such as raising a point of order in the Assembly and introducing a private member’s Bill, as confirmed by an official on Sunday.

The primary goal of this event is to furnish the legislators with a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary procedures, code of conduct, and exemplary governance practices. The sessions will be conducted in the Assembly Hall on March 18 and 19, according to the official.

During the inaugural session, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta will address the new MLAs, alongside Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Leader of Opposition Atishi.

Both Chief Minister Gupta and LoP Atishi will emphasize the importance of legislative competence in their addresses to the attendees.

Speaker Gupta remarked, “This orientation program is a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing the legislative skills of our MLAs. It will empower them to grasp parliamentary procedures, legislative drafting, and the importance of substantive debates, thus enabling them to engage effectively within the Assembly.”

The training sessions will be conducted by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), which will provide insights into parliamentary regulations and legislative methodologies. Under the aegis of the Lok Sabha Speaker, PRIDE organizes such training for MPs, legislative staff, and various stakeholders.

This two-day event will feature expert-led lectures, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, focusing on good governance, policy-making, and legislative frameworks.

These sessions will take place in the Conference Hall adjacent to the Chief Minister’s office, covering essential topics like constitutional duties, ethical governance, and law-making procedures.

The program will wrap up on March 19 with a speech from Delhi Minister for Legislative Affairs Pravesh Sahib Singh, followed by closing remarks from Speaker Gupta.

This initiative represents a significant advancement towards reinforcing democratic governance, ensuring that elected representatives are adequately equipped to serve the people of Delhi more proficiently, as stated by the Speaker.
