Is Telangana CM Playing the Communal Card in Municipal Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 8 (NationPress) N. Ramchander Rao, the Telangana BJP President, on Sunday accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of employing a “full-fledged communal card” strategy in the municipal elections.
He asserted that the Chief Minister prioritizes vote bank politics over legal principles by advocating for four percent reservation for Muslims.
“The Congress is making a desperate attempt to impose a 4 percent reservation for Muslims, which is a blatant affront to the architects of our Constitution, particularly Babasaheb Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who firmly opposed religion-based reservations and cautioned against divisive practices,” he remarked.
Rao emphasized that the BJP is the only party committed to upholding the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution.
As part of the campaign, the state BJP chief engaged with voters in Kothagudem, Kodad, and Nalgonda.
He contended that the people of Telangana are weary of the BRS-Congress alliance and are looking to the BJP as their sole alternative in the municipal elections.
The BJP has ramped up its campaign for the February 11 elections, which involve 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay warned voters that supporting the Congress party in these elections could lead to increased taxes.
While campaigning in the Karimnagar district, Bandi Sanjay stated that the BJP has already unveiled its manifesto for the civic elections, which includes a pledge to freeze local taxes.
During an election rally in Choppadandi, the BJP leader urged citizens to elect the BJP for managing the Choppadandi municipality, promising to secure Central funds for development. He assured residents of his accountability for the municipality.
Citing the Modi government’s financial support for municipal development, the Minister of State questioned why residents should consider voting for the Congress party.
The BJP’s manifesto, released last week, guarantees that there will be no tax hikes, including house tax, if they gain control of the municipalities and municipal corporations.
