Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 14 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, criticized the BJP on Tuesday, accusing them of plotting to undermine the interests of Southern states during the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. He emphasized the need for a concerted effort to secure an increase in seats on a pro-rata basis.
Speaking at the celebrations for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary, he reiterated that the BJP's actions regarding constituency delimitation would result in unfair treatment for the Southern states.
“By claiming to increase seats based on a 50 percent criterion, they are actually trying to diminish the seat allocation for the Southern states. It is essential that we unite in our fight to ensure the number of seats in these regions is raised on a pro-rata basis,” he stated.
Revanth Reddy affirmed his government's commitment to championing noble causes.
He warned that implementing delimitation based on a 50 percent criterion would unjustly impact women, as well as Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Southern states.
“Do those in Union Minister positions genuinely not understand this straightforward calculation?” he questioned.
Stressing that the government is for the people, he urged them to take responsibility for its protection.
He paid homage to Babasaheb Ambedkar, asserting that his contributions to the nation's progress are as vital as those of Mahatma Gandhi, describing them as the twin pillars of the nation.
“Mahatma Gandhi showed that it is possible to win wars peacefully, while Babasaheb Ambedkar illustrated how a nation can be governed to serve as a global model,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister noted that Ambedkar believed in the transformative power of education and that his philosophy embodies the essence of democratic governance.
He highlighted that through Article 3, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi played a crucial role in the establishment of Telangana, emphasizing the significant participation of marginalized communities in the Telangana movement.
Revanth Reddy also acknowledged the contribution of revolutionary singer Gaddar to the Telangana movement. “Anyone who thinks that Gaddar's important role, which energized the movement through his songs, will be forgotten is fooling themselves,” he asserted.
He claimed that the government prioritizes the needs of Dalits.
In a veiled reference to the former Chief Minister and BRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao, he stated that with a Dalit serving as the Speaker, disrespecting him by avoiding Assembly attendance is unjust.
“Shouldn't Dalit sons and daughters be able to hold significant positions like Finance Minister or Health Minister? This people-centric government has created a scenario where those who once belittled Dalits now seek a Dalit's permission to speak. We are committed to prioritizing Dalits and Adivasis in all sectors,” he remarked.
He announced that 'Young India Integrated Schools' are being established to combat caste-based inequities.
“We are upholding Dr. Ambedkar's ideals, advocating that education should be accessible to all, especially the underprivileged. We will be introducing 'Telangana Public Schools' to ensure quality education for everyone,” he concluded.
