Kolkata, May 10 (NationPress) The West Bengal branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) have expressed their support for the recently announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan, following a period of escalating tensions.
In a declaration, the CPI-M Politburo indicated that it is imperative for Pakistan to put a stop to terrorist activities originating from its territory.
“The Communist Party of India (Marxist) acknowledges the immediate implementation of the ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan. The citizens of both nations deserve tranquility for their advancement and success. We sincerely hope that both countries take steps toward lasting peace. Pakistan must ensure an end to terrorism from its land. It is crucial to prevent any further hostilities,” the statement from the party's Politburo on Saturday evening stated.
In his remarks to the media regarding the temporary ceasefire, the West Bengal unit chief of the BJP and Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar, remarked that Pakistan had no choice but to request a temporary ceasefire.
“They sought it, and India, consistently advocating for peace, agreed. Pakistan came to the realization that its military capabilities—on land, in the air, or at sea—cannot compete with ours. All their missiles and drones were effectively neutralized by the Indian defense forces. Conversely, their forces were unable to withstand our counteractions. Additionally, Pakistan understood that without this ceasefire, its already struggling economy would face imminent collapse,” Majumdar stated.
However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has not yet commented on the ceasefire announcement.
It is important to note that India and Pakistan have committed to a ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea starting from 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The announcement was made by Vikram Misri, India’s Foreign Secretary, who added that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations had mutually agreed to uphold a ceasefire from 5 p.m.
