New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attributed the political turmoil in Assam to the perceived "attitude" and "immature politics" of Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and prominent Congress figure. With Assam's elections set for April 9, the BJP claims that Gandhi's approach is a significant factor in the recent departures from the Congress party.

Last week, Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi transitioned from Congress to BJP, along with his son Prateek, who withdrew his candidacy for the Margherita Assembly seat.

Previously, former Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah also left the Congress to join the BJP.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari remarked to IANS, "It once appeared that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra might steer Congress in a new direction. However, due to various pressures, she seems to be operating under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi."

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has recently been appointed as the Chairperson of the Congress Screening Committee for Assam, yet Tiwari noted that "the most damaged image is Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's."

He further stated, "It doesn't appear that the nation will embrace this (Gandhi) family anymore."

Blaming Rahul Gandhi for the exodus of Congress leaders, Tiwari expressed, "With Rahul Gandhi's current attitude, it's unlikely anyone will remain with him. Ultimately, everyone prioritizes the nation's welfare."

Bihar Minister and BJP leader Dilip Jaiswal echoed this sentiment, criticizing Gandhi for "continuously undermining Congress through his immature politics."

He further stated, "This brother-sister duo (Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) only seems to be dividing power between themselves."

BJP leader Rohan Gupta pointed to "internal politics" within Congress, suggesting that the ongoing issues persist even with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's leadership role.

Gupta highlighted the dissatisfaction among Congress leaders, noting, "It's well known that the Assam Congress President (Gaurav Gogoi) is also discontent. What’s happening in Assam is only a glimpse of Congress's internal operations and their lack of trust in one another."

He concluded, "If Congress cannot safeguard itself, how can the people of Assam have faith in them?"

Meanwhile, the Congress party has released another list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, announcing nominees for key constituencies while reserving some seats for its ally, Raijor Dal.

Point of View

The BJP's criticism of Rahul Gandhi highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Congress party. With influential leaders defecting, the party's internal cohesion appears to be faltering, raising concerns about its viability in the upcoming elections. This dynamic reflects broader trends in Indian politics, where party unity is paramount for electoral success.
