BJP Candidate from Wayanad Approaches Kerala High Court Contesting Priyanka's Election

Kochi, Dec 20 (NationPress) Navya Haridas, the BJP candidate who was defeated by the Congress's Priyanka Gandhi in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll on November 13, has approached the Kerala High Court with a petition contesting her election results.
In her submission, Haridas claims that Priyanka failed to provide an accurate declaration of the assets owned by her and her family, thus warranting necessary action for breaching the Election Commission of India guidelines.
She is seeking the annulment of Priyanka’s electoral victory.
Priyanka Gandhi secured her win in the Wayanad bypoll with an impressive lead of 410,931 votes.
She garnered 622,338 votes, while seasoned former CPI legislator Sathyan Mokeri came in second with 211,407 votes, and Haridas trailed significantly with only 109,939 votes.
Interestingly, Priyanka exceeded her brother Rahul Gandhi's victory margin of 360,000 votes from the April Lok Sabha elections, although she fell short of his 430,000 votes margin achieved in the 2019 elections.
This bypoll was triggered by Rahul Gandhi's decision to vacate the seat earlier this year. The central theme of the campaign was whether Priyanka could surpass the record margin set by her brother.
Priyanka's win signifies a crucial development in her political career, nearly 20 years after she first campaigned for her mother, Sonia Gandhi, in Raebareli and her brother in Amethi during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.
Her entry as an elected official is viewed as a vital move towards strengthening the Congress' influence in Kerala and rejuvenating the party's prospects on a national scale.
