New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the ₹1 lakh crore budget for FY26 on Tuesday, highlighting 10 primary focus areas, including electricity, roads, water, and connectivity.

The budget was lauded by BJP leaders as “momentous,” while the AAP congratulated the Chief Minister, expressing hope that the government would prioritize the welfare of citizens.

In a conversation with IANS, BJP leader Harish Khurana described the budget as historic, pointing out that it marks the first time Delhi has received an allocation surpassing ₹1 lakh crore. He stressed that the BJP is committed to fulfilling its manifesto promises, including a ₹2,500 allocation for various schemes. The “Atal Canteen” initiative was also included in the budget, emphasizing the party's commitment to welfare programs.

Khurana stated, “We are striving to allocate funds across nearly all sectors, including education, roads, health, and transport. Our objective is to enhance Delhi and upgrade its basic infrastructure.”

BJP leader Kailash Gahlot also commended the budget, saying, “This is a commendable budget. I wish to congratulate the citizens of Delhi, as I believe it will address all their needs.”

BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar also described the budget as ‘very good’ across all categories. He noted that the residents of Delhi had voiced their demands for improvements in basic infrastructure, and this budget responds to those needs.

“A substantial amount of funds are being allocated for infrastructure, and we are fulfilling all our promises to the people of Delhi,” Mahawar stated.

He also highlighted that various groups, including women, traders, farmers, and villagers, would gain from the budget. “From education to health, this budget considers everyone,” he added.

Mahawar further mentioned that the government has allocated ₹5,100 crore for women’s welfare and expressed confidence in executing key initiatives like water conservation and sewage treatment plant restoration.

He also challenged the AAP-led government in Punjab, urging them to fulfill their commitments in that state.

However, AAP leader Imran Hussain adopted a more cautious stance, questioning the lack of an economic survey report accompanying the budget.

“Let’s wait and see what they accomplish. I commend Rekha Gupta for presenting the budget, and I hope they will work for the people’s benefit,” Hussain remarked.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced her first budget as part of the newly elected BJP government in the capital.

Labeling the ₹1 lakh crore allocation as historic, the Chief Minister emphasized that it represents the largest budget in Delhi’s history.

“This is a historic day, as this is not merely a budget. The people of Delhi and the nation have been eagerly awaiting how the government, elected with a historic mandate, would present its inaugural budget,” the Chief Minister stated in her address.

She elaborated that the budget is not just a financial outline but a blueprint for transforming the city.

“This budget is aimed at steering Delhi towards becoming a Viksit (developed) city, aligning it with a glorious history and a promising future,” she added.
