New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday sharply criticized the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration in the capital, accusing it of enabling corruption and financial mismanagement within the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operations.
The BJP's allegations against the former Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government were prompted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on DTC operations, which was presented in the Delhi Assembly by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday.
This report highlights operational inefficiencies, financial losses, and the purported mismanagement that occurred during the past decade of AAP governance.
Several BJP leaders, including Transport Minister Pankaj Singh and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, criticized AAP for delaying the presentation of the CAG report until they were out of power.
Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, in a statement to IANS, asserted that the former government was 'deeply entrenched in corruption' and that numerous dishonest and unethical actions transpired under their supervision.
"They are attempting to evade accountability, but we will not permit this to occur. Their misdeeds and irregularities will be exposed and made public," he further emphasized.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that Kejriwal came to power vowing a zero tolerance policy towards corruption, but today this has become synonymous with AAP governance.
"The CAG report makes it evident that AAP has also exploited the DTC. The corporation was expected to operate on approximately 850 routes, yet it is currently functioning on only 400 routes. This is why Kejriwal and his corrupt associates feared the CAG report. AAP leaders sought to prevent the report from being presented in the Assembly," Sirsa stated in an X post, criticizing AAP.
Former Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay also condemned the previous government while appreciating the CAG report on the financial irregularities during AAP's administration.
He remarked that the CAG's evaluation of various departments is revealing many uncomfortable and unpleasant truths that have been concealed for the past decade.
"When this government was formed, the DTC was profitable. However, over the years, the DTC fleet has experienced a steady decline. No growth strategy was devised, and its routes have also been reduced over time," he stated.
