Chennai, June 30 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP President, Nainar Nagendran, delivered a fierce critique of the DMK government concerning the suspected custodial death of Ajith Kumar in the Sivaganga district. He demanded accountability from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for what he characterized as a troubling pattern of police misconduct.
While addressing journalists in Chennai, he stated, "Today, I am not just the BJP's State President or the Opposition leader; I am here as a voice for a mourning mother who has lost her son."
He posed critical queries to Chief Minister Stalin, whom he referred to as the "Police Minister," regarding the events leading to Ajith Kumar's death in custody.
"Why was Ajith Kumar not presented before a Magistrate within 24 hours of his arrest? What prompted his questioning at a temple under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department?" asked BJP leader Nagendran.
Referring to accusations made by Ajith Kumar’s brother, he asserted that the young man endured severe beatings at various locations, including behind a temple office, and was coerced into drinking water mixed with chili powder.
"Why was he left unconscious in a police tempo van for four hours rather than being taken to a hospital promptly?" he questioned, alleging intentional negligence.
Nagendran also indicated that political influence might have been a factor, claiming that an individual associated with the Secretariat pressured local police to target Ajith Kumar.
"Why was the body sent to a private hospital in Madurai after government facilities declined to conduct an examination?" he queried, challenging the transparency surrounding the post-mortem process.
The BJP leader condemned the DMK government for only suspending six police officers without pursuing murder charges.
"If this is not custodial murder, then what is?" he demanded, insisting on the immediate arrest of those accountable.
Furthermore, Nagendran noted that over 24 custodial deaths have occurred under the DMK administration, accusing the Chief Minister of inaction while the police acted with disregard.
"Is the Chief Minister prepared to accept moral responsibility for this alarming trend of custodial deaths, or will he persist in being a passive observer?" he challenged.
He insisted that CM Stalin must address the public without delay and ensure accountability, warning that the BJP will persist in its pursuit of justice.
