New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi criticized opposition figures, including Samajwadi Party (SP) head Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, for their denouncement of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
Naqvi accused the opposition of attempting to transform a ‘Parliamentary Act’ into an ‘Act of God’, labeling their resistance to the Bill as a “crazy conspiracy” that is “exposing, corrupting, and demolishing” the truth.
This statement follows increasing backing for the Bill from the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), who have supported the amendments, highlighting their potential to enhance transparency and efficiency in managing Waqf properties.
Conversely, leaders like Yadav and Owaisi have characterized the bill as unconstitutional, claiming it is part of the BJP’s broader strategy to exert control over everything.
In an interview with IANS, Naqvi stated: “Some individuals are preoccupied with transforming the act of Parliament into an act of God, and those attempting to convert governmental actions into divine mandates are part of a conspiracy that’s being revealed. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is not against any community, culture, or region. It is crafted for the welfare of society and the nation.”
He defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, asserting: “Isn’t it PM Modi’s nature to work for the empowerment of every class, community, and culture? The objective is always to reform, transform, and perform for societal betterment, ensuring prosperity and happiness. Nonetheless, every constitutional reform is now under attack from certain groups with vested interests.”
Naqvi further condemned what he described as a “dangerous mentality” among factions attempting to hijack the system through communal intimidation.
“The nation is progressing, and the reforms initiated will not be diminished,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Union government is set to present the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament on Wednesday during the ongoing Budget session. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has stressed that the proposed legislation aims to enhance transparency and equity in Waqf property administration.
In addition to the Waqf Bill debate, Naqvi addressed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s decision to rename 11 locations across Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
This initiative has ignited political discussions, with SP chief Yadav ridiculing the decision, stating, “Uttarakhand ka naam bhi Uttar Pradesh-2 kar dijiye” (Why not rename Uttarakhand as Uttar Pradesh-2?).
Naqvi rejected Yadav’s comments, asserting: “He couldn’t even manage Uttar Pradesh properly during his term, and now he’s meddling in the politics of other states. He should concentrate on the states where they can actually deliver results. There’s no point in making sweeping claims about the entire nation.”
The BJP-led Uttarakhand government’s renaming plan includes changing Aurangzebpur to Shivaji Nagar, Gajiwali to Arya Nagar, Chandpur to Jyotiba Phule Nagar, and several others.
In Dehradun, locations such as Miyanwala and Pirwala will be renamed Ramjiwala and Kesari Nagar, respectively, while Nainital will see Nawabi Road change to Atal Marg.
