BJP Labels Karnataka CM's Concern for Wayanad as a Sign of Subjugation

Bengaluru, Dec 11 (NationPress) The BJP has expressed its disapproval regarding Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's offer to the Kerala government to erect 100 houses in the landslide-stricken region of Wayanad, labeling his concern as a sign of subjugation.

Wayanad, which faced devastating landslides this year leading to the loss of over 200 lives and the destruction of two villages, is currently represented in the Lok Sabha by Priyanka Gandhi.

BJP MLC and former National General Secretary, C.T. Ravi, asserted that the Karnataka government has already committed to building homes for the landslide victims.

“While the gesture is commendable from a humanitarian perspective, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's motivations appear to lack genuine concern for humanity. This is undeniably a manifestation of subjugation. The Wayanad constituency has been represented by Rahul Gandhi, and now by Priyanka Gandhi. The state government remains indifferent to issues such as maternal mortality and the suicides of farmers. They disregard the plight of a farmer who took his life after a dispute with an officer,” Ravi stated.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, your concern for Wayanad signifies subjugation,” Ravi asserted.

“We intend to bring this matter before the state legislature. A Special Investigation Team must investigate the worrying trends of maternal deaths and neonatal fatalities,” Ravi criticized.

“Congress leaders are preoccupied with addressing the allegations against CM Siddaramaiah. The government appears focused on safeguarding its own interests rather than those of the state,” he added.

Earlier in February, the Congress-led Karnataka government had announced Rs 15 lakh in compensation for the family of a person killed in an elephant incident in Kerala.

The Siddaramaiah administration clarified that the elephant had wandered into Kerala from the Bandipur forest in Karnataka.

Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre disclosed the compensation after discussions with CM Siddaramaiah.

However, when the situation became controversial, the family from Kerala declined the compensation from Karnataka.

Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar's remarks about lifting night traffic restrictions in the Bandipur reserve during the Wayanad Lok Sabha election campaigns also stirred controversy.

In a recent letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CM Siddaramaiah expressed, “I wish to remind you that during my visit to Wayanad following the tragic landslide, I pledged my government's commitment to provide 100 houses to assist the affected families.

“This initiative is designed to create a secure and stable living environment for those who have lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. I have communicated this announcement to the Chief Secretary of Kerala for further collaboration.

“It is concerning that we have yet to receive any communication from the Government of Kerala regarding the necessary guidelines or directives to implement this initiative, hindering our ability to fulfill this commitment.

“To support this initiative, I would like to convey that my government is prepared to acquire the land needed for constructing the houses, ensuring prompt action in delivering relief to the affected families.”

“I look forward to your response and cooperation on this matter,” the CM concluded in his correspondence with his Kerala counterpart.
