BJP Leader Urges J&K CM to Safeguard Rights of Dalits, Gujjars, Paharis Amid Anti-Reservation Protests

Jammu, December 24 (NationPress) BJP general secretary and the party's Jammu and Kashmir affairs head, Tarun Chugh, on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of attempting to strip the underprivileged classes of their rights under the pretext of rationalizing the reservation policy.
While addressing the media, Tarun Chugh remarked, “Omar Abdullah Ji, the governance of our nation is anchored in the Constitution, and no one shall be permitted to tamper with the rights of the Dalits, Gujjars, Paharis, and other marginalized communities. The INDIA alliance and the National Conference (NC) have previously deprived these communities of their rights and are conspiring to do so once more. Under the NC administration, members of the Valmiki Samaj were denied government employment, whereas the BJP has restored their constitutional right to reservations.”
He further stated, “The NC is perpetuating a culture of vengeance and retaliation against these communities, but we will not permit such actions. Instead of focusing on resolving the fundamental issues that the populace faces, Omar Abdullah is stirring up trivial matters. His administration has failed to tackle critical challenges like electricity and drinking water shortages, and to divert public attention, they have reignited the reservation debate.”
“It is perplexing that the Congress party never accorded Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar the respect he deserved during his lifetime, and now they invoke his name after his passing. While leaders like Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi were honored with the Bharat Ratna, Dr. Ambedkar was overlooked during Congress’s rule,” Chugh commented.
He claimed that the Congress party consistently opposed Dr. Ambedkar's views both before and after India’s independence.
“He was compelled to resign, and if one examines the correspondence from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, it becomes clear how staunchly he resisted reservations in independent India,” Chugh added.
It is noteworthy that NC Lok Sabha member Syed Ruhullah Mehdi spearheaded a protest against the reservation policy at Chief Minister Abdullah's residence in Srinagar on Monday.
This action taken against the chief minister by a member of the ruling NC party is seen as an embarrassment for him, especially as he has pledged to address the reservation policy by rationalizing it within six months.
