New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar, alongside key political figures including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa, graced the grand premiere of 'Kesari: Chapter 2' in the national capital ahead of its theatrical launch.
Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair in the movie, shared that his understanding of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre was primarily based on history books. However, the film provided him with a more profound insight into this tragic part of India’s fight for freedom.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri commended the film for its historical significance and emotional depth. “This impactful and moving film highlights a forgotten aspect of our history. It serves as a cinematic tribute to India’s struggle for independence and the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh,” Puri remarked.
In a social media post on platform X, Puri referred to Kesi: Chapter 2 as “a compelling narrative” that immerses viewers in the courtroom where Kumar’s character, Nair, “uncovers the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by dismantling the web of deceit.”
“This is essential viewing for every Indian and advocate for justice,” he emphasized, adding, “The unifying message of this film should resonate throughout the nation.”
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa took a direct jab at Congress, urging its members to view the film. Speaking to IANS, he stated, “This message is directed towards the Congress. They have erased C. Sankaran Nair from history—the individual who sought justice after Jallianwala Bagh. This film exposes what Congress attempted to conceal. They should watch it and contemplate their legacy.”
The movie features a tense courtroom showdown between Akshay Kumar’s Nair and R. Madhavan’s character, Neville McKinley, a lawyer representing the British Crown.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesi: Chapter 2 is a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Kesi (2019), which depicted the Battle of Saragarhi. While the original highlighted the bravery of Sikh soldiers, the sequel focuses on legal resistance following one of colonial India’s most atrocious massacres.
The film also features Ananya Panday in a significant role and is set for a nationwide release on April 18.
