Raipur, April 25 (NationPress) Several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh were injured in a ropeway incident at the sacred Maa Bamleshwari Devi temple located in Dongargarh town, Rajnandgaon district, on Friday.

The mishap took place as the leaders were descending via the ropeway after offering their prayers. The incident occurred when the trolley they were using malfunctioned near the stopping point at the bottom of the hill.

Fortunately, the accident happened just before they reached the ground, which helped reduce the severity of the situation and prevented a more serious disaster, as stated by officials.

Among the injured were state unit General Secretary Bharat Verma, senior leader Ramsevak Paikra, BJP leader Daya Singh, and Temple Trust President Manoj Agarwal.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his hopes for Bharat Verma’s quick recovery through his X handle.

He mentioned that while Bharat Verma had sustained minor injuries, the others were mostly unharmed. Reports indicated that Bharat Verma suffered injuries to his hand and other body parts, while the other leaders had only minor injuries.

All the injured individuals were immediately taken to a hospital in Rajnandgaon for medical attention. Ramsevak Paikra noted that there were six people inside the ropeway compartment during the incident.

He reassured that everyone is recovering, although Bharat Verma’s injuries are more significant.

The Maa Bamleshwari Devi temple, which holds great spiritual importance, is situated atop a hill, necessitating pilgrims to climb 1,100 steps to receive blessings.

To facilitate visitors, a ropeway system has been established, but this recent incident has sparked concerns regarding its safety.

The accident has highlighted the need to review the safety protocols of the ropeway system at the temple, which attracts devotees from across the country and beyond.

Authorities are expected to conduct an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and ensure such occurrences do not happen in the future.
