BJP Legislator Kalidas Kolambkar Sworn in as Protem Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly

Mumbai, Dec 6 (NationPress) Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan officially administered the oath to BJP legislator Kalidas Kolambkar, who has been elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the ninth term, as the protem Speaker during a modest ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.
Present at the ceremony were Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, and Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik.
This step was essential as the special session of the newly formed 15th State Assembly is scheduled from December 7 to 9. As the protem Speaker, Kalidas Kolambkar will oversee the proceedings of this special session.
On December 7 and 8, Kolambkar will administer the oath to all 288 Assembly members. On December 9, the Governor will address a joint session of the state legislature, followed by the election of the Speaker and the Chief Minister's floor test.
The BJP, with 132 legislators and support from five members of smaller parties and an Independent, is expected to secure the Speaker’s position, while a nominee from the NCP is likely to take on the role of deputy speaker.
Kolambkar remarked, “I was requested by my party to take an oath. The party will determine whether I will continue as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. I have conveyed my desire to be the Speaker of the 15th Assembly to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.”
Following the three-day session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is anticipated to expand his council of ministers on either December 11 or 12. This will be succeeded by a week-long winter session from December 16 to 21 in Maharashtra’s second capital, Nagpur.
During this session, the government plans to present supplementary demands in addition to several bills. The state government may also announce a crop loan waiver for farmers.
