Inauguration Ceremony for New Maharashtra Chief Minister Scheduled for December 5 at Azad Maidan

Mumbai, Nov 30 (NationPress) The anticipation has concluded as the inauguration of the 31st Chief Minister of Maharashtra is confirmed to take place on December 5 at 1 p.m. at the historic Azad Maidan, situated near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in south Mumbai, as stated by BJP MLA from Colaba constituency and Speaker of the 14th State Assembly, Rahul Narwekar, on Saturday.

This inauguration ceremony is expected to be a significant event, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, numerous central ministers, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, along with its allies, likely to attend.

While the BJP has not yet formally appointed Devendra Fadnavis as the leader of the legislature party group, sources within the party suggest that Fadnavis will assume the role of chief minister for the third time.

Fadnavis previously led the BJP-led government from 2014 to 2019 and briefly served as chief minister alongside Ajit Pawar for a duration of 80 hours after Pawar’s resignation left the government unformed. Sources from the BJP have dismissed the candidacies of Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol, Chandrakant Patil, and Vinod Tawde, emphasizing that Fadnavis remains the party’s preferred choice.

Narwekar’s announcement is crucial, especially considering that the BJP has yet to convene its legislators to elect a leader for the legislature party group. It is anticipated that this meeting will occur on Monday with the presence of central party observers. Following the formal election of Fadnavis as their leader, he, along with Shiv Sena and NCP, will seek to claim the formation of the government from the state Governor, CP Radhakrishnan.

The state assembly elections took place on November 20, with results declared on November 23, revealing a decisive victory for the MahaYuti coalition, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi faced a complete defeat.

The BJP emerged as the dominant party, securing a record 132 seats, Shiv Sena with 57, and NCP with 41. Although the MahaYuti contested the recent assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the BJP has indicated that it does not intend to relinquish the CM position to Shinde, viewing Fadnavis as the logical successor.

Discussions regarding cabinet positions and ministerial appointments among the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP are ongoing. However, sources from MahaYuti have indicated that these discussions will conclude on Monday or Tuesday.

In the meantime, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the state BJP President, conducted an online meeting on Saturday with newly elected MLAs, where he outlined the dos and don'ts for the post-government formation phase. He informed the legislators that BJP officials from all 36 districts are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

Additionally, a core committee meeting of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took place in Nagpur on Saturday in anticipation of the December 5 inauguration. The RSS and its affiliated organizations played a pivotal role in rallying voter support for the BJP during the state assembly elections.
