Imphal, March 24 (NationPress) Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure a fair, transparent, and inclusive delimitation process in Manipur.

He also urged the Union Home Minister to commence the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process in the state and to eliminate bogus voters from the electoral rolls prior to the delimitation exercise.

The Manipur government, under the leadership of former Chief Minister Biren Singh, along with various organizations from the majority Meitei community, have repeatedly called for the initiation of the NRC in the state to combat illegal infiltration from neighboring countries, particularly Myanmar.

Imo Singh, who is also the son-in-law of former Chief Minister Biren Singh, emphasized the necessity of a fair, transparent, and inclusive delimitation process in a letter addressed to the Union Home Minister.

This plea by the BJP legislator comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which mandated the completion of the pending delimitation exercise in the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam within three months.

In discussions with the media, he applauded the apex court’s decision, accentuating that certain critical issues must be resolved first to uphold the integrity and fairness of the process.

Considering the socio-political sensitivities in Manipur and the disturbances experienced over the last two years, he delineated several essential measures that should be established prior to the commencement of the delimitation exercise.

Imo Singh highlighted the urgency of finalizing the NRC procedure in Manipur to guarantee that representation within the democratic framework is allocated to genuine Indian citizens.

He asserted that this initiative is vital for preserving electoral integrity and preventing unauthorized entries into the voter lists.

The MLA acknowledged the Central government’s initiatives to detect and identify illegal immigrants but called for expedited execution of these measures.

He advocated for a comprehensive review of the electoral rolls to eradicate bogus voters, referencing previous reports of inconsistencies in the voter lists.

Imo Singh pointed out that during the administration of former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, 65,000 counterfeit Aadhaar cards were uncovered.

He noted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will ensure that the linkage between Aadhaar and Voter ID is preceded by the removal of fake Aadhaar cards, thereby ensuring accuracy and reliability in the electoral process.
