BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar Urges White Paper on Agricultural Initiatives
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Senior BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar called upon the state government during the Legislative Assembly session on Friday to publish a White Paper detailing all agricultural initiatives, including the PoCRA (Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjivani Yojana), to clarify the misconceptions and misinformation affecting farmers.
In response, State Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne addressed the assembly under Rule 293.
Mungantiwar, a former finance minister, highlighted that despite the considerable investments made in PoCRA and other agricultural projects, false narratives persist.
He noted that from 2014 to 2026, numerous transformative and essential schemes have been initiated in the agricultural domain, with significant financial backing.
Moreover, Mungantiwar pointed out that the funding allocated to agriculture during this period has reached its peak since 1960.
Even with this record-level funding, misleading information continues to circulate among farmers. As a result, he urged the government to publish comprehensive details regarding the agricultural efforts, including the PoCRA scheme, through a White Paper.
He further demanded the mandatory presence of the Agriculture Department's Secretary during discussions or replies concerning the sector in the House.
Mungantiwar expressed concerns that, despite MLAs' rights, the administration frequently does not provide satisfactory responses.
In a humorous remark, he stated that while the Agriculture Minister's address was informative, it was delivered at a pace akin to a "Bullet Train," making it challenging for assembly members to take notes.
He concluded by emphasizing the necessity for the government to share the complete minutes of the discussion and to prioritize transparency in information dissemination for the benefit of farmers.
