Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 17 (NationPress) On Tuesday, BJP MLAs in Telangana arrived at the Assembly pushing a cart filled with farmers' petitions. They are calling for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in the state and seeking solutions for various challenges faced by farmers.
The MLAs, accompanied by supporters, gathered at the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial before heading to the Assembly with the pushcart.
Palvai Harish and Payal Shankar spearheaded the protest, holding signs urging the government to activate the Central scheme. They emphasized their intention to highlight farmers' issues by submitting these petitions.
Upon reaching the Assembly, security personnel halted the BJP MLAs at the entrance, denying them entry with the pushcart. The security staff requested the papers be handed over, assuring that they would be delivered to the appropriate officials.
The BJP MLAs are advocating for the rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the waiving of farm loans in the state, alongside the immediate resolution of issues related to the release of Rythu Bharosa funds.
They pointed out that the state government has repeatedly promised to implement the PM Fasal Bima Yojana in every budget but has failed to do so. They claimed that even the state’s crop insurance scheme has not been put into action.
Harish accused the government of not fulfilling its commitment to complete the farm loan waiver, stating that farmers are not receiving the necessary financial assistance through the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
“This government has let the farmers down,” he declared, suggesting that farmers are prepared to hold the government accountable.
Highlighting the urgency for the PM Fasal Bima Yojana's implementation, the BJP MLA noted that farmers have incurred significant losses due to recent unseasonal rains across the state. He urged the government to assist affected farmers in all districts.
Payal Shankar informed reporters that farmers had shared their grievances through the representations. “We aim to present these representations to the Chief Minister and insist on the activation of the Fasal Bima Yojana,” he stated.
He was seen carrying a stack of documents on his head while reiterating their demand for the waiver of all farm loans up to Rs. 2 lakh and the prompt release of funds under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
