Why is Congress calling for a White Paper on Madhya Pradesh's economic situation?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Feb 16 (NationPress) As the Budget Session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday, the Opposition Congress once again emphasized its demand for a White Paper detailing the escalating debt under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration in the state.
During a press conference, state Congress president Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Umang Singhar, insisted that the government deliver a ‘white paper’ in the House to clarify the true economic status of Madhya Pradesh.
Patwari reiterated his assertion that the state is grappling with a ‘grave financial crisis’ resulting from the misguided policies of the BJP government over the last two decades and cautioned against a large-scale agitation regarding this matter.
The Congress party is adamant about its demand for a White Paper on the present economic state of Madhya Pradesh. Should the government fail to produce it, Congress members will organize a significant protest at the Assembly on February 24, Patwari stated.
In addition, the Congress declared that it would oppose the involvement of three senior ministers – Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Urban Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah – throughout the current budget session.
“Whenever any of these three Ministers speaks in the House, Congress MLAs will resist their participation. We will not permit them to respond to questions from MLAs. These Ministers must be removed from their positions,” Patwari asserted.
The Congress is specifically targeting Kailash Vijayvargiya regarding the tainted drinking water crisis in Indore’s Bhagirathpura, where, as claimed by Congress, 35 individuals have succumbed to illness. The opposition holds Vijayvargiya accountable as the disaster occurred within his Assembly constituency, and he is also the head of the Urban Department.
Similarly, the Congress has called for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla concerning the Coldrif tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of over 20 children in the Chhindwara and Betul districts, including a three-year-old boy who was hospitalized in Nagpur and passed away shortly thereafter.
Last week, Patwari sent a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, requesting the removal of these three ministers from the Cabinet before the Governor’s address in the budget session, in consideration of public sentiment.
The Winter Session of the State Assembly kicked off on Monday with the Governor’s address, which faced repeated interruptions from protesting Indian National Congress MLAs.
During his address, Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel highlighted the accomplishments of the Mohan Yadav-led BJP state government and outlined its future initiatives to enhance the state.
He announced that the state government has proclaimed this year as the Year of Industry and Employment. Patel noted that the government organized the Global Investors’ Summit along with several regional industry summits, achieving substantial success in attracting investment proposals and signing memorandums of understanding.
