Patna, May 14 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul has ignited a significant debate by calling for the establishment of a population control law in Bihar.
He cautioned that within the next two decades, demographic shifts may lead to Hindus losing their electoral significance in various parts of the state, particularly in regions like Seemanchal and Mithila.
“The increasing population and demographic changes could make it exceedingly challenging for Hindu candidates from all castes to secure victories in districts such as Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea, Katihar, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Motihari, and Bettiah,” Bachaul stated.
He maintained that a population control policy is vital for equitable governance and development, insisting that the Hindu population is lagging behind demographically.
While appreciating the Election Commission's initiatives to boost voter turnout in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Bachaul warned against the risk of fraudulent voting, particularly pointing out the potential for impersonation in areas with significant Muslim populations.
He called on the Election Commission to safeguard voting integrity and prevent any deceptive practices.
Bachaul criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for allegedly failing to maintain its Muslim vote base, using the electoral success of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Kishanganj as an illustration. He questioned the longevity of politics based on caste and religion.
“If the Hindu population continues to decline, even major parties like JD-U, RJD, and BJP may face irrelevance,” he asserted.
Bachaul also drew parallels to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir, and Bengal, claiming that diminishing Hindu populations in these regions historically heralded social unrest or fragmentation.
His remarks have sparked a vigorous political and social discussion, particularly due to their communal and demographic implications.
Responding to these claims, RJD state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed has sharply criticized BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul. Ahmed accused the BJP of intentionally raising communal and divisive issues ahead of elections to divert attention from its governance shortcomings.
Ahmed questioned the timing of Bachaul's comments, stating, “Why does the BJP consistently introduce such topics to shape perception and narrative only when elections are approaching? After the elections, this so-called knowledge vanishes.”
He emphasized that the citizens of Bihar are seeking solutions regarding unemployment, inflation, crime, corruption, women's safety, and the lack of development.
He insisted that the double-engine government (referring to the NDA rule at both the Centre and the state) must be held accountable for its performance over the past two decades.
