Is IndiGo's Baggage Mishandling a Shameful Experience for BJP MP?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) BJP's Lok Sabha representative Praveen Khandelwal condemned IndiGo on Friday, branding the airline's baggage mismanagement as “shameful” during his recent journey. He emphasized the growing worries regarding passenger experience at the country’s busiest airlines.
Khandelwal, who represents the Chandni Chowk constituency and serves as the Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), flew on flight 6E‑5237 from New Delhi to Belagavi (Karnataka). Although he arrived at his destination, his checked-in baggage did not, leaving him with no information about its location. This situation has caused him “immense mental anguish, significant inconvenience, and financial loss” as he had to purchase essential clothing and items.
Importantly, he noted that the lost luggage contained vital and valuable documents, making the ordeal “even more distressing”.
Khandelwal's post on social media platform X pointed out that such negligence and poor baggage handling are entirely unacceptable, especially for a sitting Member of Parliament. “If this is the experience extended to a Member of Parliament, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary passengers,” he remarked, underlining the necessity for accountability and improved passenger service.
In his post, he tagged Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, demanding an “immediate explanation” regarding the mishandling of his baggage and requested clarity on the corrective actions being implemented.
He also reached out to Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, stating that the incident “reflects deeply concerning operational standards at IndiGo” and urged immediate governmental intervention to protect passenger interests and maintain service quality.
This complaint arises amidst increasing scrutiny of IndiGo’s operational difficulties, which include previous flight disruptions and customer complaints about cancellations, delays, refunds, and baggage issues, all of which have attracted regulatory attention.
At the time of reporting, airline officials had yet to respond to the specific baggage complaint.
