New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) The BJP launched a strong attack against the Congress party on Monday, urging its president Mallikarjun Kharge to address allegations concerning his son, Priyank Kharge, and his purported links to a drug trafficking network in Maharashtra.
Amit Malviya, who oversees the BJP's National Information and Technology Department, posted on X, “Will Mallikarjun Kharge finally address these accusations? Or will Congress continue its pattern of shielding its members?”
“The situation is escalating for Priyank Kharge as his top associate has been implicated in a drug trafficking case,” Malviya remarked, referencing the NDPS case filed in Thane against Priyank Kharge's aide, Lingaraj Kanni.
“The arrest related to drug trafficking once again tarnishes the Congress's reputation! The close circle of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge is facing scrutiny. Kalyan Police have taken Lingaraj Kanni, the Kalaburagi South Block Congress President and a close aide of Priyank Kharge, into custody,” the BJP leader stated.
Previously, Maharashtra Police apprehended Kanni on drug peddling allegations.
Authorities indicated that he was caught in Thane city with illegal narcotics and was reportedly trying to distribute them. He was also discovered with 120 bottles of a prohibited Codeine-based syrup.
A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Bazarpeth Police Station.
In addition to Priyank Kharge, Lingaraj Kanni is recognized as a close aide to Congress MLA Allamaprabhu Patil.
Kanni joined the Congress during the 2023 Karnataka State Assembly elections, having previously been a member of the BJP.
In a separate incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Station Bazar police in Kalaburgi, Karnataka, concerning the suicide of a contractor, Sachin, who reportedly faced harassment by associates of Minister Priyank Kharge in December 2024.
Sachin, a contractor from Bidar, took his own life on December 26, 2024, allegedly after receiving threats from Raju Kapnoor, a former Congress corporator and close associate of Minister Priyank Kharge.
