Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Cooch Behar (West Bengal), April 5 (NationPress) BJP MP Manoj Tigga asserted on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands by its commitments. His remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the Central government's plan for a 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
During a public gathering ahead of the two-phase Assembly elections, PM Modi highlighted that measures are underway to ensure that women can reap the benefits by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
In an interview with IANS, Tigga referenced the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and the repeal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, stating, "Every promise made by the BJP is fulfilled."
He continued, "We have pledged a 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha elections, and we will deliver on that promise. Previous parties failed to do so."
Responding to accusations from the Trinamool Congress and Congress regarding the Election Commission (EC), Tigga claimed that the Opposition lacks faith in the EC. "When they win, they praise the Election Commission, and when they lose, they criticize it. For instance, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) commended the EC when they won in Delhi but denounced it when the BJP emerged victorious there. Such allegations are frequent, but we have complete trust in the Election Commission of India," he asserted.
Regarding the SIR and the upcoming state elections, he declared, "We expect a transparent voter list and fair elections. People will be able to vote without fear."
Furthermore, the BJP MP accused a segment of the police in West Bengal of exploiting their position under the ruling Trinamool Congress. "Some police officers act as an extension of the state government and have even received rewards," he claimed.
Women attending PM Modi's event expressed hopes for a fair electoral process in West Bengal and showed confidence in the BJP's potential success.
Reena Sarkar expressed certainty for a transparent election this time, stating, "A change will happen this time."
Another attendee voiced her disdain for schemes like Lakshmir Bhandar from the current Trinamool government, calling for employment opportunities. "Despite holding BA and MA degrees, we struggle to find work, but we want our children to receive quality education," she remarked.
Another woman added, "We strongly support the 33% reservation that PM Modi announced. We, the women, aspire to be empowered."
She also mentioned, "Having observed the Congress, CPI-M, and Trinamool in power in Bengal, we now desire a BJP government."
An elderly woman concluded, "Whatever PM Modi commits to doing will benefit the populace. I am confident of the BJP's victory."
