BJP Threatens Protest Over Delayed Teacher Recruitment in Karnataka
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 25 (NationPress) B. Y. Vijayendra, the President of BJP's Karnataka unit, issued a strong warning on Wednesday regarding the urgent need for the Siddaramaiah administration to commence the recruitment process for teachers. Failing to address this issue promptly will lead the party to organize a protest.
During a press conference in Bengaluru, Vijayendra criticized the Congress-led government for its hesitation to proceed with any recruitment efforts, attributing this reluctance to financial challenges.
He highlighted that there are currently 59,000 vacant positions in the education sector and over 30,000 unfilled roles in the health sector.
Vijayendra recalled that last year, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to address the vacant teacher positions, yet no action has been taken.
The State Students’ Federation held a significant protest in Dharwad on Tuesday, demonstrating multiple times as they took to the streets.
Similar protests were organized in Bengaluru, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, and Bidar. He accused the state government of treating this issue with indifference, asserting that it is in a "deep slumber like Kumbhakarna" and lacks the commitment to create employment for the youth.
He expressed his dismay that despite repeated protests, the government has remained unresponsive.
Vijayendra also reminded the Congress administration of its election promise to fill all vacant government positions within a year.
He noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had guaranteed that if Congress was elected, 2.5 lakh vacant posts would be filled.
Vijayendra claimed that persistent issues remain unresolved due to the power struggle between Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar.
He mentioned that MLC S.V. Sankanur raised questions on this matter, and the government responded by stating that approval was granted to fill only 24,300 posts. Even after four to five months, the recruitment process has yet to commence, he stated.
He further alleged that although the Finance Department approved recruitment for over 40,000 positions, the government has still not initiated the process, accusing the Chief Minister of consistently making false claims.
Former MP S. Muniswamy, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, MLC S.V. Sankanur, and Bengaluru North district president S. Harish were among those present at the press conference.
