Hyderabad, March 3 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured the Telangana Legislative Council seat from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency, while Panchayat Raj Teachers’ Union (PRTU) candidate P. Sripal Reddy has claimed victory in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency.

BJP candidate Malka Komaraiah won the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ segment by obtaining the highest number of first priority votes, defeating his closest competitor Vanga Mahender Reddy by a margin exceeding 5,000 votes.

Komaraiah received 12,959 votes, while Mahender Reddy secured 7,182 votes.

In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency, Sripal Reddy was declared the winner based on second priority votes over the incumbent MLC Narsi Reddy. BJP’s Puli Sarottham Reddy finished significantly behind.

The counting of votes for the Telangana Legislative Council elections concerning two teachers’ constituencies and one graduates’ constituency commenced on Monday.

The vote counting for the graduate constituency of Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar is still ongoing.

Currently, Congress and BJP are in a direct contest in this constituency, which is presently held by senior Congress leader and former minister T. Jeevan Reddy.

Congress has nominated V. Narender Reddy, who is competing against BJP’s C. Anji Reddy.

The BJP, having won all four Lok Sabha seats in this region last year, is optimistic about taking the seat from Congress.

Candidates receiving over 50 percent of first preference votes will be declared elected. If no candidate meets this threshold, the counting of second preference votes will proceed.

The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency witnessed a polling rate of 70.4 percent. The voter turnout for Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency was 91.9 percent, while Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency recorded 93.55 percent.

A total of 56 candidates contested in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency. With the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) opting out, the main competition was between the ruling Congress party and the BJP. Approximately 3,55,159 graduates were eligible to vote, with around 2.5 lakh voters participating.

Although elections for the teachers’ segments are conducted on a non-party basis, the BJP nominated candidates in both segments.

In the meantime, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay praised the BJP’s success in one of the teachers’ segments, asserting that the results indicate strong support from teachers.

Sanjay, who serves as the MP from Karimnagar, attributed the victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asserted that the BJP enjoys the backing of the people of Telangana and predicted the party’s ascendance to power in the state.
