Bengaluru, April 4 (NationPress) A BJP member, previously detained for making remarks about Congress MLA A.S. Ponnannahas, tragically died by suicide on Friday.

Ponnannahas holds the position of Legal Advisor to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Reports suggest that the BJP member could not withstand the shame associated with his arrest. This incident took place within the Hennur police station jurisdiction in Bengaluru during the early hours.

The individual, identified as 35-year-old Vinay Somaiah, reportedly took his life at the BJP party office located in HBR Layout. According to police reports, Vinay had gone to the office on Thursday night and remained there. He shared a death note in a WhatsApp group before taking this drastic step.

In his note, Vinay indicated that he was driven to this extreme action due to a politically charged FIR filed against him.

Two months prior, Vinay Somaiah, originally from the Kodagu district, was arrested for posting a light-hearted comment about MLA Ponnanna.

Charges were brought against him as he was the administrator of the WhatsApp group where the comment was made. Following a complaint from Congress worker Tennera Maina, the Madikeri police initiated an FIR against three individuals, including Vinay.

He was later arrested and subsequently released on bail. His family mentioned that the High Court had placed a stay on the investigation. In his final communication, Vinay expressed that he had suffered humiliation and mistreatment unjustly, which had deeply impacted his dignity and honour.

Sources indicate that Vinay leaves behind his parents, wife, and child. He also served as an operations manager in a private firm.

BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra has gathered all pertinent information regarding the case, and sources within the BJP have mentioned plans for a protest against Congress MLA and CM’s Legal Advisor Ponnanna in the coming days.

Further details surrounding the incident are expected to emerge soon.
