Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 21 (NationPress) Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha had a brief confrontation with police on Saturday as they tried to march towards the state headquarters of the Indian National Congress in Jaipur.
The BJYM members were demonstrating against the Youth Congress’s shirtless protest at the AI summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Friday, which has sparked significant political backlash.
On Friday, the Yuva Morcha had already made plans to encircle the Congress office on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, Yuva Morcha workers gathered at Martyrs’ Memorial in Jaipur and protested against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. After the demonstration, they began their march towards the Congress office via Sansar Chandra Road.
As the group neared the party headquarters, police established barricades to prevent them from advancing. When some protesters attempted to climb over the barricades, a brief scuffle ensued between the workers and the police, but order was restored swiftly.
Yuva Morcha State President Shankar Gora criticized the Congress during the protest, accusing it of targeting the Prime Minister and undermining national interests.
On Friday evening, Yuva Morcha workers also burned an effigy of Rahul Gandhi and chanted slogans against the Congress in Jaipur.
Saturday’s march was part of the BJP youth wing’s ongoing protest campaign in response to the events at the AI Summit in New Delhi.
The Indian Youth Congress stated that their demonstration aimed to raise awareness about concerns that “corporate interests are being prioritized over national interests” and alleged that the government’s foreign policy stance had weakened.
They also linked the protest to economic issues such as rising prices and unemployment, asserting that frustration among young people is increasing.
