Chandigarh, Aug 5 (NationPress) BJP's national General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Tuesday demanded the urgent cancellation of the land pooling scheme, announcing that the BJP will initiate a state-wide agitation aimed at safeguarding the interests of farmers.
Chugh emphasized that the Modi government is dedicated to defending farmers, asserting that a “state-sponsored scheme to exploit farmers’ lands in the guise of development to benefit real estate developers” will not be tolerated. Chugh stated, “This is not a policy; it’s a betrayal. Farmers understand that this scheme serves as an official mechanism to confiscate their ancestral lands. Let the Mann government acknowledge this: we will not allow them to seize even a fraction of Punjab’s agricultural land.”
Highlighting the contradictions of the Bhagwant Mann government, Chugh remarked, “No promises have been fulfilled. Loans remain unpaid. Jobs have not reached the youth. The guarantees for the minimum support price (MSP) are absent. What is thriving under AAP is lawlessness, corruption, and empty pledges.”
He further declared that the land of Punjab’s farmers is sacred—akin to a mother—and any effort to acquire it forcibly without consent is tantamount to robbery.
“This is not development; it is coercion masked as progress. We will battle this issue on the streets, in the courts, and among the populace. Punjab will not be surrendered to land sharks and political contractors,” Chugh asserted.
He accused the Mann government of acting as intermediaries for real estate interests, betraying the very farmers who voted for change but received disillusionment instead. However, state Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has clarified that the land pooling scheme is farmer-friendly and based on mutual consent.
“Not a single inch of land will be forcibly taken from any farmer. The decision to provide land rests entirely with the farmers,” Minister Cheema informed the media.
