New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved a historic milestone for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections, with the party securing 48 out of 70 seats. The PM committed to providing Rs 2,500 monthly payments to women, initiating the cleaning of the Yamuna, presenting the CAG report in the Assembly, and realizing the aspirations of Delhi residents through the full power of a double-engine government.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Delhi for their trust in “Modi ki Guarantee”, he addressed the crowd in a celebratory atmosphere at the BJP National Headquarters and pledged to repay the trust of Delhi voters by revitalizing the city’s development trajectory.

“Delhi serves as a gateway to the nation and deserves superior infrastructure,” he stated.

He assured that the CAG report—anticipated to highlight financial discrepancies within the AAP government—will be presented during the initial Assembly session of the BJP administration, reiterating his promise: “Lootnewalon ko lotana padega” (The corrupt must pay for their actions).

PM Modi criticized the ousted AAP, asserting that the BJP's success demonstrates that there is no room for politics of deceit and shortcuts in Delhi.

Shortcut wali rajneeti ka short circuit kar diya” (The politics of shortcuts have been short-circuited by the voters of Delhi), he remarked.

He emphasized that the politics of polarization, anarchy, arrogance, and creating obstacles to development have been rejected.

“Individuals who viewed Delhi as their personal domain have been shown their place,” he added, underlining how NDA administrations across states have fostered growth and welfare.

In a jab at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s behavior, PM Modi remarked: “Governance is not a platform for publicity or stunts.”

The PM also criticized the Congress for once again achieving a score of zero in the Assembly elections.

“The Congress has accomplished a double hat-trick of zeros—failing to secure a single seat in the last three Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Delhi,” he stated.

Following this noteworthy victory with a 45.56% vote share, the BJP leadership remained tight-lipped regarding its Chief Minister candidate.

BJP's Delhi election in-charge, Baijayant Panda, announced that the next CM's identity will be revealed after discussions over the upcoming 10 days.

Throughout the day, speculation circulated regarding giant-killer Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, being a potential frontrunner for the CM position.

However, Verma declined to confirm or deny his candidacy for the top post.

“The party will determine the CM's identity. I am dedicated to serving the people and working tirelessly, just like my father,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the AAP acknowledged its defeat—following three consecutive victories in 2013, 2015, and 2020—in a dignified manner and committed to being a constructive opposition.

No mention was made of EVM or electoral roll manipulation or lapses by the Election Commission that the party had raised during the campaign.

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal noted: “We are not in politics for power. We view politics as a means to serve the populace. Whether in government or opposition, we will stand by the people in their joys and sorrows, providing assistance in any way we can.”

Chief Minister Atishi, the sole prominent AAP figure to win from her Kalkaji seat, stated that the party will continue to oppose the BJP’s overreach.

On social media, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked, “We humbly accept the mandate of Delhi. Heartfelt gratitude to all Congress workers in the state for their commitment and to all voters for their support. This battle for the advancement of Delhi and the rights of its residents—against pollution, inflation, and corruption—will persist.”

In a related action, Lt Governor V.K. Saxena ordered the sealing of the Delhi Secretariat, preventing the removal of any files or computer hard drives from the office, signaling an impending anti-corruption investigation against the ousted AAP government officials.

Celebrations erupted at BJP offices as vote-counting trends indicated the party was claiming power after 27 years.

Party members set off fireworks, distributed sweets, and chanted “Modi, Modi” outside party headquarters.

The celebrations continued into the evening, culminating in PM Modi's victory speech at the party’s national headquarters.

In the recently concluded election, the turnout reached 60.54%. The BJP received a 45.56% vote share, while the AAP garnered 43.7%, and the Congress ended with a 6.34% vote share.

In 2020, the AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats with a 53.57% vote share. The BJP won eight seats with a 38.51% vote share. The Congress received 4.26% of the votes, while others accounted for 3.66%. In 2015, the AAP claimed 67 seats, achieving a 54.6% vote share.
