BJP Establishes Tactical War Room in Bhabanipur to Challenge Mamata Banerjee
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 1 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to present a significant challenge to Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, in her home constituency of Bhabanipur during the forthcoming Assembly elections.
According to BJP sources, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and a prominent BJP figure, has established a strategic 'war room' in the Bhabanipur area as of Sunday.
This 'war room' is located on the ground floor of a residence at 8/1B Chakraberia Road (South) within the jurisdiction of Ward No-70 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
It is important to highlight that the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency consists of eight wards from the KMC: 63, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 77, and 82.
Since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has consistently garnered significant support in six of the wards within the Bhabanipur constituency.
Notably, the BJP has often surpassed the ruling Trinamool Congress by a considerable margin in wards 63, 70, 71, 72, and 74.
Given this data, Suvendu Adhikari is determined to overturn Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming state Assembly elections, actively partaking in various BJP initiatives in Bhabanipur at least once a week.
In the previous state Assembly elections of 2021, the Chief Minister opted to contest from Nandigram in East Midnapore, which is Adhikari's constituency, instead of Bhabanipur.
After losing to Adhikari in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee subsequently secured her position as Chief Minister by winning the Bhabanipur Assembly by-election.
BJP officials assert that Mamata Banerjee will contest again from Bhabanipur in the upcoming elections, prompting the BJP leadership to direct Suvendu Adhikari to ensure a formidable campaign against her.
A source within the West Bengal BJP indicated that strategies to confront Mamata Banerjee will be coordinated from the party's war room located in ward number-70.
Given that the BJP has received the highest vote count in this ward, it has been decided to establish a campaign office here to challenge the Chief Minister.
A BJP leader noted that the Trinamool Congress has repeatedly secured the Bhabanipur seat primarily due to vote margins achieved in just one ward.
Ward number-77 of Bhabanipur, which has a strong minority presence, has been a key area for the Trinamool Congress, contributing significantly to their vote bank.
Interestingly, data shows that approximately 47,000 voters' names were removed from the voter list in Mamata Banerjee's constituency, compared to about 11,000 in Suvendu Adhikari's constituency.
According to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's office, the total number of eliminated names from the final voter list in the Bhabanipur constituency stands at 47,111.
In Bhabanipur, 14,154 voters currently have their documents under judicial review, suggesting that more names could be removed once the adjudication concludes.
BJP sources noted that the majority of deletions from the final voter list occurred in ward number-77. Consequently, the BJP is optimistic about reducing the Trinamool Congress' vote share in Bhabanipur and gaining an advantage in the upcoming state Assembly elections.
