More Voter Deletions Expected in Bhabanipur Amid Judicial Review
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 3 (NationPress) The electoral roll of Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in West Bengal, which is currently represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is set to experience an increase in the number of voter deletions following the ongoing judicial review of voter documents, according to informed sources.
Statistics from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal indicate that a significant number of voter documents—totaling 14,154—have been flagged for judicial adjudication due to being categorized under "logical discrepancy."
In the most recent electoral list for West Bengal, excluding those documents under review, a total of 47,111 names have already been removed from the Bhabanipur constituency. The additional deletions from the judicial process will further augment this figure.
The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has remarked that the substantial deletions in Bhabanipur, alongside the upcoming judicial decisions, pose a "grave concern" for the Chief Minister.
Adhikari stated, "There aren't enough voters left in Bhabanipur to guarantee the Chief Minister's victory in the upcoming Assembly elections."
Conversely, Chief Minister Banerjee remains optimistic about her chances in Bhabanipur, asserting she would emerge victorious even if only a single voter remains.
Despite her confidence, she has continued to launch fierce criticisms towards the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming, "The ECI has intentionally removed legitimate voters. I find this shocking. This is a deeply troubling and inhumane situation. The ECI, in collusion with the BJP, has orchestrated this voter deletion. Despite the significant number of removals, I will win even if only one voter remains."
