Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, February 28 (NationPress) The conclusive voters’ register in West Bengal has been released, marking a significant phase in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process within the state.
According to the data, approximately 47,000 voters have been removed from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Assembly constituency, while around 11,000 voters were deleted from the constituency represented by the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari.
As per information from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the total count of voters eliminated from the final list in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency stands at 47,111, where the Chief Minister serves as the legislator.
Conversely, in the Nandigram Assembly constituency, located in the East Midnapore district and represented by the Leader of the Opposition, the total number of deleted voters is 10,994.
For the Bhabanipur constituency, there are currently 14,154 voters whose documents are undergoing judicial scrutiny, indicating that more names may be removed pending the outcome of this process.
In Nandigram, 8,819 voters are also facing judicial review of their documents.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the Trinamool Congress regarding the significant voter deletions in Bhabanipur. In contrast, Adhikari remarked that the substantial loss of voters in Bhabanipur could understandably cause concern for the Chief Minister.
He stated, "In Bhabanipur, there are now insufficient voters remaining to secure the Chief Minister’s victory in the upcoming Assembly elections later this year."
To recap, during the 2021 Assembly elections, the Chief Minister contested from Nandigram but was defeated by Adhikari. She later won a by-election from the Bhabanipur constituency and retained her position as Chief Minister for a third term.
