Bhubaneswar, April 9 (NationPress) The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate police has confiscated 515 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh during a raid conducted in the Khandagiri police station area, as reported by Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh on Wednesday.
Authorities apprehended two siblings involved in drug trafficking — Sk Jamir Mohammad alias Jammu and Sk Sahid Mohammad alias Muna — who are residents of Jaleswar in Balasore district.
According to sources within the Commissionerate police, acting on a tip-off, the Special Crime Unit performed a surveillance operation and successfully captured the pair near Naka Gate Chowk in Khandagiri on Tuesday evening.
The duo had arrived at the location to distribute the drug shipment to local dealers in Bhubaneswar.
During the operation, the police also seized 515 grams of brown sugar from the siblings' possession.
In addition, a red Honda Activa (Registration No. OD 01 AW 4291), two mobile phones, and Rs 3,150 in cash were confiscated.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to expose further details regarding their operations and affiliations.
Commissioner Singh stated, "This operation signifies our unwavering dedication to dismantling drug networks. Our committed team has diligently worked to thwart criminal activities and ensure that the perpetrators face the full force of the law. We will continue to safeguard public safety and encourage citizens to provide any information that may assist our investigation," as reported by IANS.
The Commissionerate police's crime unit also conducted raids at several small establishments in the Infocity Police station area, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of Ganja, Ganja-filled cigarettes, and other incriminating materials on Wednesday.
It is important to note that the Commissionerate police recently apprehended five individuals and detained a juvenile, seizing brown sugar worth Rs 72 lakh from two separate locations in Bhubaneswar last month.
