Hyderabad, April 2 (NationPress) An MLA from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana made headlines on Thursday by conducting an unconventional protest, donning a dress crafted from a mosquito net to draw attention to the escalating mosquito crisis in Hyderabad.

Devirreddy Sudheer Reddy, representing the LB Nagar constituency, held a press briefing in the Assembly media hall clad in a gown made from a mosquito net, while operating a fogging machine.

He expressed concerns that the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that citizens are compelled to utilize mosquito nets daily, claiming the government has utterly failed to mitigate the mosquito problem.

The MLA elaborated that residents have resorted to wearing mosquito nets as soon as they open their mouths, with mosquitoes invading them.

Sudheer Reddy criticized the government for the ongoing mosquito crisis and called for the provision of 10 fogging machines for every municipal division in Hyderabad.

He asserted that residents are vulnerable to Malaria and Dengue due to the state government's inadequate fogging and preventive actions.

He urged the government to implement immediate measures to control the mosquito population in Hyderabad, warning that failure to do so could further tarnish the city’s reputation.

He challenged the Congress government’s celebratory claims, questioning what they have accomplished for the city in the past two years.

He alleged that the Congress administration has been ineffective in addressing the mosquito problem in Hyderabad, contrasting it with the previous BRS government, which actively worked to eliminate mosquitoes and their breeding grounds in ponds.

Earlier, Sudheer Reddy faced resistance from security personnel at the Assembly entrance, who informed him that carrying a mosquito net and fogging machine onto the premises was prohibited.

He questioned this decision, arguing that such restrictions should not apply when the Assembly is not in session.

Last month, K. T. Rama Rao, the BRS working president, criticized the Congress government during the State Legislative Assembly for the worsening mosquito situation in Hyderabad.

KTR humorously suggested renaming several neighborhoods to reflect the increasing mosquito population, proposing names like “Domalaguda, Domalahills, Domalabad, Domalapool, and Domalagutta.”

He claimed that fogging operations have nearly ceased, resulting in a significant rise in mosquitoes and a corresponding spike in viral fevers among residents.
