Aizawl, March 23 (NationPress) In a collaborative operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Mizoram Police successfully confiscated a significant stockpile of ammunition, explosives, and other assorted items in the Lunglei district of the state, which is bordered by both Bangladesh and Myanmar, officials reported on Sunday.

Three individuals, including a woman, have been apprehended in relation to the acquisition of these munitions and explosives.

A spokesperson for the BSF stated that following specific intelligence, personnel from the 92nd battalion of the border guarding force, in cooperation with the Mizoram Police, managed to seize a vast quantity of ammunition pertaining to various advanced arms, explosives, and other items from a residence in the bordering Lunglei district on Saturday night.

The seized items comprise 6,200 rounds of 7.62 mm AK series rifle, 1,800 metre cordex, 600 detonators, 20-metre safety fuse, and an array of other equipment.

A representative from the Mizoram Police mentioned that senior officials are currently interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover more information about the seizure.

Authorities suspect that this substantial cache of ammunition was intended for smuggling to militants possibly located either in Myanmar or Bangladesh.

The operation on Saturday night took place approximately 40 days after another significant seizure of advanced arms, ammunition, and various items from the same Lunglei district.

On February 12, the Mizoram Police halted a vehicle at Lunglei Bazar in southern Mizoram, resulting in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, five US-made M4 carbines, 20 magazines, 504 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 4,675 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.

Three individuals—two from Mizoram and one from neighboring Tripura—who were transporting the arms and ammunition in the vehicle were also apprehended. They belong to the Chakma community. Additionally, police recovered Rs 49,550 in cash, various documents, SIM cards, ATM cards, and five mobile phones from the detainees. The arms-laden vehicle was coming from Thenzawl in central Mizoram’s Serchhip district, which borders Champhai district, known for the smuggling of drugs, arms, ammunition, and other contraband from Myanmar.
