New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) In a surprising development related to the ‘cash at judge’s home’ saga, a sanitation worker uncovered burnt currency notes of Rs 500 denomination on Sunday while cleaning a road adjacent to the 30, Tughlak Road home of Justice Yashwant Varma in central Delhi.

This discovery stirred a minor commotion in the high-security locale, situated very close to the Tughlak Road police station.

The sanitation worker, employed by NDMC, who stumbled upon the remains of the burnt notes, took photos and alerted their superiors, who subsequently notified the police.

The retrieval of these burnt currency notes lends some credibility to the police's assertion in the ‘Cash at judge’s home’ incident, which claims that the notes were incinerated in a fire that occurred on Holi night, March 14, within an outhouse on Justice Varma's official property.

However, Justice Varma has denied the existence of any notes in the outhouse or their burning in the fire, labeling the entire situation as a conspiracy aimed at discrediting him.

This controversy has prompted Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to initiate an investigation and instructed the Delhi High Court chief not to allocate any judicial responsibilities to Justice Varma until the inquiry concludes.

On Friday, CJI Sanjiv Khanna established a three-member committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Varma.

"The Chief Justice of India has formed a three-member Committee, which includes Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana; Justice G.S. Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh; and Anu Sivaraman, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka, for conducting an inquiry into the allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, a sitting Judge of the High Court of Delhi," stated a release from the Supreme Court.

The Committee has not been assigned a specific timeline to complete its investigation, and once the report is submitted, the CJI will determine if the findings necessitate more stringent action.
