New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to two significant projects amounting to Rs 2,781 crore focused on multitracking railway lines spanning 224 km across four districts in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The approved projects include the enhancement of the Devbhumi Dwarka (Okha)-Kanalus line over a length of 141 km and the Badlapur-Karjat 3rd and 4th line covering 32 km, according to a Cabinet statement.

The doubling of the line from Kanalus to Okha (Devbhoomi Dwarka) will significantly improve access to the Dwarkadhish temple, a vital pilgrimage site, fostering overall development in the Saurashtra region.

As part of the Mumbai suburban corridor, the Badlapur-Karjat section's 3rd and 4th line initiative will enhance connectivity in the suburban area and address future passenger demands while linking to Southern India.

This route is crucial for transporting goods such as coal, salt, containers, and cement. The capacity enhancements are expected to yield an additional freight traffic of approximately 18 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).

This multitracking project will enhance connectivity for around 585 villages, impacting a population of approximately 32 lakh.

The Railways serve as an eco-friendly and energy-efficient transportation mode, contributing to climate objectives, reducing logistics costs nationally, decreasing oil imports by 3 crore litres, and lowering CO2 emissions by 16 crore kg, equivalent to planting 64 lakh trees.

"The boost in line capacity will greatly improve mobility, leading to better operational efficiency and reliability for Indian Railways. These proposals are set to optimize operations and reduce congestion. They align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a New India, creating self-reliant opportunities through comprehensive regional development," stated the communique.

The projects are designed under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, emphasizing improved multi-modal connectivity and logistical efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder engagement. These initiatives will ensure seamless movement for people, goods, and services, the statement concluded.
