Kolkata, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court has granted approval to the West Bengal chapter of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold a public meeting in East Burdwan district, but with a stipulation regarding sound levels.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to speak at this gathering.
Following an initial denial of permission, the RSS sought intervention from the single-judge bench presided over by Justice Amrita Sinha.
After careful consideration, Justice Sinha authorized the meeting with specific conditions.
She mandated adherence to the decibel limits established by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) during the event.
The state government had initially refused permission, citing ongoing secondary examinations organized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) which impose restrictions on the use of loudspeakers.
In response, the RSS's legal representative contested this claim, asserting that there are no educational institutions within a two-kilometre radius of the meeting site.
The RSS attorney argued that the state’s assertion about microphone use disturbing examinees was unfounded, as there were minimal residential structures nearby.
He informed the court that the meeting would last just 75 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and would occupy only a small portion of the vast venue.
Conversely, the state government’s counsel argued that the vicinity contains three schools and emphasized that microphone use is prohibited from three days prior to the examinations until they conclude.
Justice Sinha concluded that the meeting could proceed provided that sound levels remain contained, requiring strict compliance with the WBPCB’s decibel regulations.
