Kolkata, Feb 13 (NationPress) The West Bengal branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has turned to a single judge bench of the Calcutta High Court to contest the police's refusal to permit a meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Burdwan, located in the East Burdwan district, scheduled for February 16.

The local police denied this request citing ongoing restrictions on loudspeakers due to the ongoing secondary examinations by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE).

Furthermore, the police emphasized that a school is situated near the proposed meeting site of the RSS chief. However, advocates for the meeting argue that since the event is planned for a Sunday, it would not interfere with the examination process.

On Thursday, the RSS's state unit moved forward with their plea to the Calcutta High Court regarding the police's decision. The hearing is anticipated to occur on Friday.

Currently, Bhagwat is on a tour across West Bengal. During his visit, he has engaged with various RSS functionaries to deliberate on strategies for enhancing the organization’s presence in the region.

This planned gathering in Burdwan on Sunday is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening the RSS's foothold in central Bengal districts. Political analysts deem this tour significant, particularly in light of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in 2025.

Additionally, this tour occurs amidst ongoing concerns regarding the oppression of the Hindu minority in neighboring Bangladesh, which directly affects West Bengal, the state with the longest border with Bangladesh.

On February 8, Bhagwat held an extensive meeting with the parents of a female doctor who was tragically victimized in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case. They have sought the RSS chief's intervention to secure justice for their daughter.

During their discussion, the parents earnestly requested Bhagwat to ensure that the Centre takes the necessary actions and issues appropriate directives for a thorough investigation in the future, ensuring that all those responsible for this heinous crime are held accountable. Bhagwat assured them of his support in this matter.
